The Abandoned Farmhouse

Natu

Hi guys,

The following story was first published on Quotev.

Chapter 1.

“RUN….James RUN!” shouted Tony as he picked up his son and ran towards a mini bus which had a few more people. He ran at a great speed to reach the bus. He entered it and helped his wife, Alice, board it as well.

People inside the bus were shocked, speechless. The only thing in their minds was to ESCAPE….

A FEW MINUTES AGO…………………

“Alice help me carry this box in.” said tony as he came outside his farmhouse to pick up a box. The farmhouse was surrounded by a small land, meant for farming.

“Tony, was it necessary to buy this farmhouse even though we don’t have enough money left? ” asked Alice as she took out a radio, a small one, from her bag and gave it to her son, James, to play with. “Well, the company wants us to be in this part of the world, and this was the cheapest option available.” replied Tony.

“Anyways, what’s wrong? we have been living in this  house for about 2-3 months…!” asked Tony, as he took out a jar of plum preserve and spread it out on his slice of bread. “I don’t know, I just have a feeling……..a feeling, that something is just………..just not right…” replied Alice.

At this point, their son,James switched on the radio he was playing with.
” This is to bring to your notice that our scientists have found out that a volcano, long believed to be a dead one, is showing signs of erupting  within the next 2 hours…..    Our all attempts to call for help have failed due to the fault in our communication system.
Kindly stay with your family and do the needful.”

Broadcast by a radio channel, this news was not able to reach many. Tony and Alice started packing everything they could, in a nervous haste. James sat there in a state of confusion. He wondered why his parents were acting like maniacs just because of some stupid radio news?
After-all, he was just a 5 year old.

Chapter 2.
Suddenly, Tony’s phone rang. He picked it up.
“Hello?!! Tony? It’s Steve. We just can’t sit like this, we NEED to do something. Look, I’am bringing a bus. There is a passage that will take us far from here if we drive it at full speed. I have already picked up many people. But you need to reach the end  of the narrow alley connecting to your farmhouse as the passage is TOO small for the bus to go. I’am coming Tony, don’t you worry, I’am coming” said the speaker.

It was Tony’s friend , Steve. This call was like a little ray of hope that everything would be fine.
Tony explained this to his wife. And then , they just started running. They could see the bus at a distance at the end of the alley passing through their yard.

But James fell down and all his toys, a rubber cow, a tractor and a doll in overalls, were strewn in the yard. James could only pick up his favorite toy, and felt very sad as he had to leave his other toys behind.

Just as the bus gained a little speed, there was a thunderous sound and the broadcast’s mistake was found. The volcano had erupted, just in a few minutes…… not 2 hours…

The sky turned red, the birds screeched, there was a red-fiery substance everywhere……
The mini bus was engulfed by black smoke, fire seemed to be raining from the sky. The atmosphere looked like………….the end …..of the world.

A little quantity of ‘lava’ fell just an inch behind the bus as it sped away.
“I left my Bible on the bed , broke all the dishes in this nervous haste” said Alice.

They had lots of near misses , it was their greatest ordeal…

The bus swerved left to right every now and then. Steve tried his best to control the bus. Once done with the controlling, he shifted the gears and hit the gas…..

A bit of ‘lava’ fell in front of the bus.

The rough road made their condition worse…. Only thing in their mind……..ESCAPE FROM THIS HELL!

“Gotta end this NOW Steve!!!” Tony shouted.

“You got it.” replied Steve as he pressed the gas pedal hard, HARDER.
